The Forever Kitchen
THE BRIEF
For this retired couple, longtime holidaymakers now settling permanently in Kinloch, this wasn’t just another kitchen. It was part of their forever home. They brought with them a clear vision for how they wanted their space to work.
The wife, an avid cook, needed a kitchen that was practical and functional, while her husband took on the cleaning duties. A scullery with a dual-zone working area was non-negotiable, giving each of them their own space to prep and clean without getting in each other's way.
THE SOLUTION
From the beginning, this kitchen was a real collaboration - with the clients, the builder, the architect and our SMJ team all working closely together to bring the vision to life.
We incorporated clever lighting design, with wall linings and window jams finished to match the Dekton benchtops, framing the kitchen and scullery windows beautifully.
Materials were carefully selected for both durability and aesthetic appeal. Dekton benchtops, soft-touch acrylic cinder cabinetry, and ashin timber for warmth. The integrated fridge freezer and rangehood meant extra attention to detail was needed to ensure a perfect fit.
One of the biggest technical challenges was creating cabinetry and panels using set-sized wall-lining timber provided to us.
But with a collaborative approach we made it work. We even custom-built a wooden vent to match the cabinetry, skipping the plastic alternative to keep the design cohesive and elevated.
THE RESULT
A stunning, highly functional kitchen and scullery space that truly reflects the way this couple lives and works together.
With thoughtful zones for cooking, cleaning, and storage, every detail has been crafted to make daily routines easy (and beautiful!).
It's a warm, welcoming space built to be enjoyed for years to come.
